Description:
This ancient sculpture is in one of the courtyards of the Vatican museum. It was discovered in the 16th century. It represents the priest, Laocoon, who tried to warn the Trojans not to accept the horse that the Greeks had left on the beach outside the gates of Troy during the Trojan War. The goddess Athena, who supported the Greeks, sent serpents to kills the priest. His two sons are trying to save him.
