Description:: Schwerin is the state capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is famous for its Historicist palace and interesting old town. In contrast to most brick Gothic churches, the interior of Dom is white and not bare. Various architectural styles can be seen on the Markt – many 19th-century Historicist rather than original. The statue of the Lion is in memory of Duke Henry the Lion, who founded the Bishopric of Schwerin in 1160.
