Description:
Belém Tower - an outstanding monument by the River Tejo (Tagus). It was built between 1515 and 1521 by order of King D. Manuel I. Formerly it stood on the middle of the River and was the point from which the portuguese ships sailed into the unknown seas; however nowadays it is situated on the river’s margin. Notice that on the photo the brownish area corresponds the the sand and some blured water.
