Description:: Costa Vicentina - it is the coast situated north of the cape St Vicente (Sagres), and it is named after that saint. Although part of it is still Algarve, it is very different from the mild and warm water beaches that people are used to see on the south coast.This coast is protected and part of a natural park. Being so, construction is fortunately restritecd and tourism is limited to some typical houses in small villages.My photo shows what I consider one of the most beautiful beaches: Praia do Amado. The beach is enclosed by green slopes and the sand is golden. It is situated near a village called Carrapateira, where you may find some small and quiet houses to spend lazy days. There are also surf schools in this area (near Sagres) as the beaches along the coast are good for practicing this sport.
